Nothing happened to trigger the Einstein’s sensors but, on the other side of the system, circling one of the gas giants, a computer, already ancient in Roman times, stirred from its electronic sleep as its sensor array, spread across the system, reacted to the increase in radio traffic arising from the various craft involved in the repeated transfers from Einstein to the planet. With an increasing level of awareness, it began a study of the system, looking to identify the events that had caused it to wake.
