Easy Potions

Potions are meant to be consumed, so be careful of the ingredients you choose. You can use any ingredient, though, if you plan to use the potion in a bath (barring any allergy issues). Never include blood or saliva in a potion. It is not only unhygienic but can lead to the spreading of diseases. However, some potions can be put into a hot bath, used as a body wash in a shower, or even used as a cleansing spray to banish bad energy. Make these for your own benefit or to help others.

Protection Potion

For this potion, you will need one glass of milk; dark chocolate syrup, melted chocolate, or cocoa powder; and a spoon. Yes, this is a classic chocolate milk drink, but it gets its potency from the color of the dark chocolate, which represents the color of protection, and how you make it. Once you’ve put the chocolate into the milk, stir the mixture slowly nine times clockwise while repeating: “Goddess great, protect me from all harm today. So mote it be.” Now drink the chocolate milk, and immediately clean the glass and spoon. That’s it!

Moon Water, Life Water

In a glass or jar of Moon water you prepared earlier, add the following: a touch of rosemary to keep your mind sharp; a mint leaf to keep your mind clear; a few slivers of orange peel to keep your energy high; and a pinch of chamomile to keep your spirit calm. Mix everything together, and put it in the fridge, as it is best consumed cold. You can also put this mixture into popsicle molds. If it needs a little sweetening, add a touch of organic, raw honey.

A Kiss from a Rose

This is a wonderful and super simple potion to pour into a hot bath when you want to let your inner beauty shine. In a jar, mix Moon or rainwater, if possible, with a handful of rose petals and a heaping tablespoonful of lavender (dried or fresh). Close the jar and shake gently. Then, place a rose quartz on top of the jar. Leave overnight to infuse (if you can leave in a spot where the moonlight will shine upon it, all the better). Then, pour the mixture into a hot bath for a lovely rose kiss.

Beauty Potion Tea and Bath

You will need ½ cup dried raspberry leaves; ½ cup marigold petals; ½ cup rose petals; a pink candle; a rose quartz; a tea bag; and a teacup. Mix the dried leaves and fresh petals in water and divide in half. Pour half into a hot bath. Take the other half, put it into a tea bag, and steep in a cup of hot water to make a tea. Light the pink candle and place it and the rose quartz on the side of your bathtub. As you bathe, sip the tea, and visualize yourself being surrounded by a lovely, rosy aura, making your skin and hair shine, and giving you a beautiful glow inside and out. You can chant something like, “Beauty inside of me, beauty without, I grow in beauty beyond a doubt. Soft of skin and hair aglow, my beauty shines for all to know.” Finish the tea and blow out the candle. Take the plant parts in your bath, scoop them into the cup, take them outside, and throw them in your compost pile or garden. You don’t want plant parts going down the drain and clogging the pipes. Keep the rose quartz on you for seven days to remind you of your inner and outer beauty.

Red, Red Wine Potion for Love

Red wine has a romantic quality all of its own. This easy potion is drinkable and celebrates the passion associated with the color red. Do this alone if you seek a partner. If you already have one, it can be a romantic way to reconnect and let passion flow. You will need one bottle of any red wine; two red roses; two red candles; and two wineglasses. Place the bottle of wine in the center of a circle of rose petals from both roses. Light the two red candles. One is for you, and the other is for your lover/potential lover. Close your eyes and get centered. Imagine the wine being infused with love, passion, friendship, laughter, joy, and partnership. See the wine bubbling with the energy of two hearts coming together as one. Imagine sharing the bottle of wine with the perfect mate. Feel how happy you will be with this person in your life or with a renewed passion for each other if you already have a mate. Open your eyes and pour two glasses of the passion-infused wine as you say: “Bring us love, bring us passion, bring us joy. Bind us to one another as the rose is to the wine and fill our hearts with longing and love for only one another. So mote it be.” If you are with someone, give one glass to your lover, and drink the other. If you are alone, pour both glasses but only drink one. Place some rose petals into the second wineglass and leave it overnight. Blow out the red candles and cork the bottle. The next morning, remove the rose petals, and drink the wine. This is romantic to do with your mate, but even if you don’t yet have the love of your life, this spell and potion ritual sends the message into the aether that you are ready, willing, and able to meet someone special.

Clover Potion for Wealth and Good Fortune

This is another simple potion that requires easily obtained ingredients and can be done during a waxing or full Moon phase. You will need a handful or cup of fresh clover, washed thoroughly to remove dirt and possible pesticides (fresh clover is generally nontoxic, but you will be boiling it, which makes it even safer to consume); one green candle; a one-dollar bill; one pot; one stirring spoon; a pinch of pink or sea salt; a strainer; and a large cup or jar. Once the clover is cleaned, put it into a pot of water, and bring it to a boil. While you wait, carve your name and birthday onto the green candle, and set it aside. Light it but keep it away from the stovetop. Wrap and tape the dollar bill around the top of the stirring spoon. Stir the clover as it comes to a boil. Always stir clockwise. Add a pinch of sea salt or pink salt. Say the following: “As I stir the pot of clover, my days of lacking money are over. As I make this potion brew, my wealth increases through and through.” Repeat this until the water is boiling. Then, give thanks to the appropriate deity/universe, and end with “so mote it be” as you remove the pot from the heat and turn off the burner. Let the pot sit and cool for 20 minutes. Take your strainer and put it above your large cup or jar. Pour the clover water through the strainer to remove the plant parts, leaving just the liquid in the jar below. Take three sips of the potion. That is all that is needed. Extinguish the candle, and discard the plant parts in your garden or compost pile.

Healing Potion

This is a potion you can drink like a tea for general healing. You will need half an apple, freshly sliced; a pinch of cinnamon; a pinch of rosemary; two pinches of willow tree bark; and a pot. Mix the ingredients in a pot of water, and bring it to a boil. Let it cool for a few minutes, drinking it as a hot tea, or, allow it to fully cool, and put ice cubes in for a healing and refreshing potion.

Cleansing Potion Spray

This potion is put into a spray bottle to spray away negativity and bad energy. You can spray it inside and outside your home. You will need one spray bottle; Moon water or purified water; a pinch of lavender; a pinch of rosemary; a pinch of basil; a bay leaf; a pinch of sea salt or pink salt; and ground eggshells. You can use fresh or dried herbs, whichever is easier. Put all the contents into the bottle. Fill the bottle about two-thirds of the way with the Moon water. Shake the bottle vigorously nine times. Spray this on doorsteps, windowsills, garage doors, around the perimeter of your home, and inside on the floorboards or baseboards. Avoid spraying yourself or your clothing should you have any allergy issues. Before spraying on furniture, test out a small area to make sure it won’t stain or taint the color of the cloth. Refrigerate what you don’t use, or make up a fresh batch every month.

Happy Home Potion

This is a potion you will pour into a decorative jar or bottle and leave somewhere in your home where you can see it every day. You will need a decorative bottle or jar; one handful of fresh jasmine; one handful of rose petals, preferably white or pink; two passionfruit flowers; one tablespoon of raw, organic honey; and two cups of water. Mix the ingredients into the water, stirring clockwise. As you do, visualize a happy and safe home for all who dwell within. Say the following: “May this potion ensure a peaceful, happy home for all who enter.” Pour the mixture into the jar or bottle, and seal it. Leave the potion in direct sunlight for a few hours, then find a perfect place to display the bottle or jar where it is readily visible to all who enter your home.

Perfect Health Potion

Have a lovely colored bottle around the house? This spell requires a blue or pink bottle to best work its healing magic. You will need a blue or pink bottle; one teaspoon rosemary; one teaspoon thyme; one teaspoon cinnamon; and one teaspoon chamomile. Put the ingredients into a glass bottle, and fill halfway with Moon or rainwater, if possible. If not, use distilled water. Shake gently to mix the herbs. Place the sealed bottle in direct sunlight all day, then leave overnight in the refrigerator and put back in the Sun for a second day. Look to see if the water’s color has been changed by the herbs. If so, it is ready to use. Do not drink this. Pour this potion into a nice, hot bath, or use as a body wash in the shower to bring you good health.

Wiccan Love Potion

This is a potion to be poured into a hot bath or used as a perfume. You will need dried cinnamon; dried cardamom; dried rose petals; dried lavender; dried lily of the valley; raw, organic honey; a lemon; a large bowl; and a bottle with a cap. You can dry the flowers by taking them fresh and leaving them overnight under the light of the Moon, then in one full day of sunlight. Mix all the ingredients in the bowl with some water, stirring clockwise. Add a touch of lemon and honey. Bottle the mix, and seal with the cap. Gently shake and visualize meeting someone special and how happy and excited you will feel. Before you go out to any occasion where you will be around potential love interests, use in a hot bath or shower as a body wash, and, if you desire, dab a little as a perfume on your wrists, neck, and inside the elbows.

Healing Lavender Potion

This is a lemon tea concoction that uses the powerful properties of lemon and lavender to restore health and wellbeing. You will need one lemon, cut in half; a handful of fresh lavender; water; a teapot; and a cup. Squeeze the lemon into the teapot of water. Put in the fresh lavender. Bring to a boil and let steep over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Then, pour the liquid (straining out the flower parts) into a teacup. Stir the water three times clockwise. Add a touch of honey or sweetener if needed. Drink a cup now, and refrigerate the rest for a cool, refreshing drink later over ice.

Be My Love Apple

This cocktail-style potion is meant to be consumed with the one you love or hope to love. You will need a saucepan; two cups of tomato juice; one bay leaf; one teaspoon of basil; one pinch of dill; one splash of worcestershire sauce; a pinch of salt; and celery sticks. Put the ingredients into a saucepan, and stir clockwise, bringing it to a simmer. Simmer for 3–5 minutes, then remove the pan from the heat. Pour the mixture into a bowl or jar and put it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Strain before serving, and pour into two glasses, adding a pinch of salt and a celery stick. Give one glass to your beloved or beloved to be.

A Beautiful You Potion

This potion is meant to be consumed and can keep you looking youthful. It contains raw egg yolk, so do not use if you are allergic or have any issues with eggs. You will need one tablespoon chamomile; two egg yolks; ½ teaspoon raw, organic honey; one cup water; and one cup orange juice. Boil the chamomile in the cup of water and set aside. Mix the eggs thoroughly, then add the honey. Blend well. Add the orange juice to the egg/honey mix, then add the chamomile water. Mix well, stirring clockwise. Serve in a glass immediately.

Inner/Outer Power Potion

This potion is somewhat generic and can be used anytime you need a little extra confidence and personal power to achieve a task or ace a meeting or interview. Do this on a waxing Moon phase or a full Moon if you can wait that long. You will need Moon water or purified water; a glass or goblet; one teaspoon ground allspice; one teaspoon ground ginger; vanilla extract; one small lemon; a piece of paper; a red pen or marker; a red ribbon; and a long-handled spoon. Once you’ve prepared your space, take the paper, and draw a pentacle on it with the red marker. Place the glass or goblet atop the pentacle. Fill the glass with water. Add your allspice and ginger. Add three drops of vanilla extract. Squeeze the lemon juice into the glass; just a few good squeezes will do. Tie the red ribbon around the stem of the glass several times and knot it loosely. Stir the ingredients three times clockwise. Repeat three times: “With this potion, I do ask, for the power to fulfill this task. I ask the goddess, by her lead, with this potion, I succeed.” Take three sips of the potion. Leave the rest in a safe place until the time of your event or meeting. Once it has passed, you can pour the potion outdoors in a garden or compost pile.

Dry Money Potion

This is a spell that is not a liquid but a powder to be kept in a charm or mojo pouch. You will need one pinch of dried ginger; one pinch of dried cinnamon; one pinch of dried allspice; some pine needles; one pinch of dried cedar; and a green charm bag, mojo bag, or other type of pouch with a tie. Place the in gredients into the pouch and tighten the tie. Mix up the in gredients by shaking the pouch and using your fingers to move the herbs around. Whenever you are in need of extra money, remove a tiny pinch of the powder mix, and sprinkle it in your wallet or purse to attract money to you.

Two cups of cocoa topped with whipped cream and served with cinnamon sticks are not just a delicious treat but also ingredients in the passion potion.

Passion Potion

Share this potion with your current love on a cold winter night to spark up a bit of passion. You will need hot cocoa, enough for two cups; two cups of half and half; two teaspoons honey; eight ounces of grated milk or dark chocolate; whipped cream for topping; two cinnamon sticks; and two red candles. Heat everything but the whipped cream and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan on medium heat. When small bubbles appear, take it off the heat, and pour it into two mugs. Put one cinnamon stick in each mug and top it with whipped cream. You can add a touch of Irish crème for an extra kick. Light the red candles, and say together, “Love is ours on this cold, cold night, may our passion for each other always burn bright.” Intertwine arms, take a sip of cocoa, then enjoy the rest by the fire, and see what transpires.

Infused Water Potions

One of the most enjoyable ways to drink a potion is in the form of infused water. All it requires is water in a large container, preferably glass, some chopped citrus fruit or berries, sliced cucumber, and mint leaves. You can use these ingredients in any combination or alone and even add edible flowers and spices. Infused waters are all the rage and make getting your daily dose of H2O easier while also providing you the opportunity to do a little spellwork, to boot. Drink alone or share with another. Here is one delicious mix to attract love into your life. You will need water; a large jar; fresh rosemary sprigs; fresh mint leaves; fresh cilantro; and fresh parsley. Place the ingredients into the water. Many infusion jars and containers have a central chamber where you can put your ingredients to allow them to infuse into the water yet easily be strained out for drinking, but if you don’t mind the plant parts at the bottom of the jar/container, place them there, and let them sit for several hours or more in the refrigerator. The longer you let it infuse, the stronger the taste will be, so check on it every now and then. When it’s ready to drink, think about the love you hope to attract into your life and how you will be “infused” with happiness when you meet that perfect person. The more feeling you put behind the thought, the sooner that person will appear. If they are already in your life, share a glass of infused water with them.

Essential Oil Potion

If you love essential oils, try mixing some together to use as a perfume to attract the opposite sex. You will need assorted essential oils, such as ylang ylang, sandalwood, patchouli, rose, or vanilla, and an amber jar with a lid. Place the oils in the jar and cover it with the lid. Shake until well blended. Let this sit for two to four weeks to infuse the scents and fragrances together. When ready, dab on your pulse points before going out for some extra attraction power.

Third Eye Opens Potion

The Third Eye sees beyond what our actual eyes can see. To open the Third Eye is to invite more intuition, psychic experiences, and divination skills into your craft. Do this spell just before the Moon is at its fullest. You will need Moon water or purified water; one teaspoon dried mugwort; one teaspoon dried rosemary; one teaspoon dried lavender; a stirring spoon; a tea or coffee cup; three small Moonstones; one white feather; and one small pot. Do not drink this if you are pregnant! Heat up the pot of water on the stove. Add in the mugwort, rosemary, and lavender. Stir clockwise nine times. Dip the feather into the water, then touch it to your Third Eye, the space between your eyebrows on your forehead. Make the sign of the pentagram. Redip if needed. As you do this, chant the following three times: “I see all. My doors of perception are cleansed and clear.” Let the mix simmer until warm enough and pour into a tea or coffee cup. Put the Moonstones into the cup and take three small sips. Do not drink the whole mix. Make this mixture for three days in a row, using all new ingredients and cleansed, charged tools each time. Look for signs after the third day that your Third Eye is awakening.

Everyone has a third eye, and accessing it can increase your intuition and divination abilities, as well as other psychic skills.

Witchy Tip

Those medicine droppers you get if you have children come in handy for transferring small doses of potions into jars and bottles. Keep a few on hand and be sure to clean them well before and after each use. Cleanse them too with sage, incense, or a quick spell to remove any negative associations or attachments.

Basil’s Protection Potion

This potion can be kept in small bottles or jars around the home or office for protection against negative energies and influences. You will need one saucepan or pot; nine or ten fresh basil leaves; a dropper; and assorted small bottles or containers. Place the leaves into a pot of water, and bring to a low simmer. Keep simmering for approximately one hour, then remove from heat, and let cool. Use the dropper to fill the small bottle and containers with the potion. Place them all over your home, your yard, and even your office for protection. Basil is one of the most powerful herbs used in medicinals and magic. Make a new batch every few months and refill your bottles and containers to keep the basil potent.

Alcohol Potions

Potions, elixirs, and other liquids used by witches can include alcohol, such as vodka, rum, wine, tequila, and brandy. The presence of alcohol in a potion adds to its shelf life and can turn a simple concoction into a wonderful cocktail with extra magical punch. Be careful not to use alcohol with sedating herbs, such as valerian, chamomile, California poppy, lemon balm, ylang ylang, or lavender. Never give someone a potion without telling them if alcohol is present. Drink, and spellcast, responsibly.

Coffee Potions

Coffee is a magical brew that can turn a tired lump of clay into a vivacious, energetic human being. It’s only natural that someone thought to create magical potions with coffee as the foundational liquid. A coffee potion can be created in many ways, but all involve other ingredients that complement the bitterness of the coffee or sweeten it up, such as raw, organic honey or sweet cream. Make it more magical by stirring it three times clockwise with a special charged spoon or the tip of your athame. Some coffee potions seen around social media include:

•    Moonchild—Adding a few drops of whole milk or heavy cream to the coffee evokes the Moon deities, such as Diana and Artemis, and the divine energies of the goddess herself.

•    Venus Love—Put some cream in your coffee with a touch of ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick for extra protection from the Moon deities and lovely Venus herself.

•    Snowy Nights—Try some coconut shavings and a touch of mint in your coffee to bring to mind a snowy night around winter solstice time. All hail the coming of Yule!

•    Sensuality—Put some caramel in your coffee to appeal to the sexy, passionate goddess within. Caramel is said to bring about blessings and banish negative energies.

•    Passion for Life—Add cinnamon to your coffee and taste the delicious sweetness that represents a lust for life and vitality. Use powdered cinnamon for best results.

•    Energy Boost—Add some pure salted butter into your coffee in the morning for an amazing boost of energy and extra clarity through the early part of the day.

•    Aphrodite’s Gold—Pour in some raw, organic honey for a special sweet coffee treat that honors the gorgeous Aphrodite. Honey has been called the “gold of the gods” for its many healing and magical properties.

•    Take Charge—Who can resist adding chocolate or cocoa powder into your coffee? Not the god Mars, who represents action and taking charge. That’s exactly how this potion will make you feel.

•    Smooth Operator—Try some coconut oil in your coffee to boost energy, pump up the immune system, and acknowledge the goddess Artemis, to boot.

•    Spring in Your Step—Add almond milk to your coffee to honor the god Mercury and encourage solutions to financial problems. It sharpens the mind and puts a nice spring in your step.

•    Thanksgiving Time—Yes, pumpkin spice goes great in coffee. Who would have thunk? This potion symbolizes Earth’s bounty and prosperity and the fruits of our labor, and it tastes incredible, too.

Get creative making your own coffee recipes. You can add things like spices, cloves, vanilla bean, ice cream, fruits and berries, and even alcohols, like rum and Irish crème. At Yule, add some mint ice cream or shaved candy cane pieces. Coffee is a potent elixir all its own but made even more magical when you combine it with some of your favorite things. The most important things to remember when making and using potions are:

•    Never give someone a potion without their knowledge. This is especially important if it contains any alcohol.

•    Avoid herbs and ingredients you may be allergic to or are known to be toxic.

•    Herbal teas can be a great go-to base as a potion, especially if you don’t have a lot of fresh or dried herbs around the house.

•    Don’t limit potions to those you can drink. They can be poured into a bath, used in the shower, or dabbed on the skin, like a perfume.

•    If making medicinal potions for children, always check first with their doctor and do allergy tests of ingredients first.

Happy brewing!
