Born in Toronto, Canada in 1962, Jeff Brown did all the things he was supposed to do to become successful in the eyes of the world. He was on the Dean’s Honor List as an undergraduate. He won the Law and Medicine prize in law school. He apprenticed with top criminal lawyer Eddie Greenspan. It had been Brown’s lifelong dream to practice criminal law and search for the truth in the courtroom.
But then, on the verge of opening a law practice, he heard a little voice inside telling him to stop, just stop. With great difficulty, he honored this voice and began a heartfelt quest for the truth that lived within him. Although he didn’t realize it at the time, Brown was actually questing for his innate image, the essential being that he came into this lifetime to embody. He was searching for his authentic face.
As part of his journey, Brown explored many possible paths. He studied Bioenergetics and did session work with cofounder Alexander Lowen. He practiced as a body-centered psychotherapist and completed an MA in Psychology at Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco. He also co-founded the Open Heart Gang, a benevolent gang with a heartfelt intention. Their first creation—the unforgettable spiritual documentary”Karmageddon”— is now completed.
In 2001, Jeff was overwhelmed by the need to write. It was strong and it was determined, a soulnami of sacred purpose that absolutely had to be expressed if he was to have any peace. This is in the nature of a calling once it has been awakened. After six years of hard work, his first book—Soulshaping: Adventures in Self-Creation—was published in 2007. With the help of a homeless man who sold the book on the streets of Toronto, Jeff’s first press run quickly sold out. The book was then picked up by North Atlantic Books and published in August, 2009 with a new sub-title—Soul-shaping: A Journey of Self-Creation.
Soon thereafter, Jeff began writing inspirations for ABC’s Good Morning America. He was interviewed by CNN radio, appeared on Fox News.com, and wrote pieces for the Washington Post’s On Faith blog and Insight Magazine.
In September, 2010, Jeff wrote a blog called Apologies to the Divine Feminine—from a warrior in transition, which was met with a viral response on Facebook and beyond. Since then, Apologies has been translated and re-printed countless times. That blog and two other popular blogs—Apologies to the Sacred Masculine, and The Awakening Man—are re-printed at the back of this book.
At present, Jeff is living just outside of Toronto, where he is writing and promoting Karmageddon (www.karmageddonthemovie.com). The film, which focuses on Jeff’s 2005 journey with chanter and spiritual teacher Bhagavan Das, includes wonderful interviews with Jeff and author Ram Dass, yogis Seane Corn and David Newman, and chanters Robert Gass, Wah, Deva Premal and Miten.
