Piper Buys A Car

After all of Piper’s friends had their wishes granted they decided it would be good fun to go on another adventure.

First of all they wanted to say goodbye to their friends and play with the lambs on the hill.

After hugging Piper’s brothers and sisters and all of their wonderful friends, they climbed aboard a cloud bus and sailed around Glenuig waving goodbye to everyone.

They could even wave to the crabs dancing at the bottom of the sea because the water was so clear.

“Wait! Wait!” someone shouted.

They had left Kangaroo behind, but he can jump so high that he landed straight into the cloud bus and they all cheered.

Having left Glenuig, Piper said to his friends, “I saved all of my pocket money. Now I can buy a car so we can travel to faraway places and meet new friends.”

At that moment Owl flew down and said he had heard that Mr Badger had a car for sale.

So off they went to look for Mr and Mrs Badger.

In the old oak tree there is a large hole where they live with their family.

‘Put-put-bang-bang’ they heard as Mr Badger rolled up.

“Look after it well, Piper, because it’s a magic car.”

As they jumped in, Piper’s friends became excited. They drove off down the hill waving goodbye to the Badger family.

Driving over the bridge Rabbit called to Piper, “Stop, I can hear someone.”

“Bless my soul,” said Kangaroo, “it’s Miss Swan.”

“What’s the matter?” everyone asked.

“She has broken her wing and we were just going to get married,” said Mr Swan. “All of our friends and family will be in the church waiting for us.”

“We’ll take you to the church in my magic car,” said Piper.

Everyone jumped out to make room, while Squirrel made a bandage for Miss Swan’s broken wing.

Off they went, flying over hedges and fields, till they reached the church.

“It really is a magic car,” said Owl. “You nearly flew as fast as me.”

What a wonderful wedding Mr and Mrs Swan had! Everyone was so happy as they threw flowers of all the colours of the rainbow.

Then they had cream cakes, buns and orange fizz and danced while the bells rang. They all sang and were joyful.

Piper parked his car in the woods. He and his friends then walked until they came across a lake. Sitting on the edge was a very strange-looking fellow.

“Hello,” said Piper and his friends. “What’s your name and why are you sitting on your own?”

“I am Mr Warthog and I don’t care if you all think I’m strange-looking.”

“Such nonsense,” said Piper.

“Well, those two flamingos do. They think they are so clever with their posh pink coats.”

All of Piper’s friends gave Mr Warthog a big hug and said, “You can come with us to a place called Glenuig. There the sand is so soft and golden, the water is so clear you can see the crabs dancing on the bottom and the people are so friendly. You can make a wish there.”

“It sounds a wonderful place,” said Mr Warthog.

Everyone was just about to get into Piper’s car when they heard a sound - ‘cheep-cheep,’ - and there on the floor were two little baby blackbirds. They were so small they only had a few feathers.

“Why aren’t you in your lovely warm nest?” said Piper.

“That cuckoo pushed us out,” one said pointing to the top of the tree. “My sister and I fell to the ground.”

“Right,” said Piper. “We’ll see about that. Stay here, everyone, I will be back soon.” Off Piper went in his car.

He returned with Mr Giraffe, who went to Cuckoo and said, “What are you doing pushing out those poor little baby blackbirds?”

“I’m staying here,” said Cuckoo.

“Oh no you’re not,” said Mr Giraffe.

“OK, OK,” said Cuckoo.

“You can slide down my neck and say sorry to those poor little blackbirds right now,” said Mr Giraffe.

“I’m sorry, you guys,” said Cuckoo. “Let’s go back to the nest. I’m sure we can work it out together.”

The baby blackbirds and Cuckoo lived happily together till they were all old enough to fly away.

Everyone got into Piper’s car and they drove until they came to a small field. In the far corner they could see an old horse. He came over to them at a very slow pace.

“Hello, Mr Horse,” they said. “You look very tired and you’re all alone in this field.”

“Once upon a time I used to be a show horse and wore wonderful plumes and shiny brasses. I could walk with my head up and trot at a fancy pace.” Mr Horse shook his head and said, “Never again, and nobody wants to see me now.”

“Come with us to Glenuig where the sand is soft and golden and the water is so clear you can see the crabs dancing,” said Piper.

“Yes, please come with us,” said Piper’s friends.

“I will be glad to come,” said Mr Horse.

At that moment someone shouted, “Help!”

Everyone jumped into Piper’s car to see what the fuss was about.

“You’re not coming through Dog City,” said a group of angry-looking dogs.

“This isn’t fair,” said Piper. “These are my friends and we’re going to find faraway places in my new car.”

“Well, we did hear you took Miss Swan all the way to the church in your magic car, so we will take you through Dog City. My name is Spike, by the way.”

While walking through the city they came to a dark alley, and at the far end was a huge brown oak door.

“Go through the door,” said Spike.

Very frightened, they slowly opened it and a voice bellowed, “Who are you coming into my city?”

Sitting on a huge wooden throne was the biggest dog you’ve ever seen. He wore a red robe and had a large golden crown on his head. Dogs of all shapes and sizes surrounded him.

“Who are you and why are you wearing a crown when you’re not King of Dog City like me?” he bellowed.

Shaking, Piper said, “My name is Royal Piper of the Glen.”

“Oh yes,” said the king. “I’ve heard of you and your friends. You help people. Go through the red door and have a safe journey.”

With that the door shut behind them.

When they arrived home again everyone was there to greet them.

With their new friends they all sat around the Golden Bush. When the leaves turned to gold and the wind blew they made a wish.

Mr Horse trotted round at a fancy pace with his head held high just like he used to. Mr Warthog didn’t care he was strange-looking as everyone hugged him and the pink flamingos kissed his cheek. Mr and Mrs Swan had four little babies, and the Dog City boys all came to tea.
