Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy
Servings: 8
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • teaspoon ⅛  ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups thinly sliced onions
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cooking sherry
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
Directions
Step 1 In a sizable bowl, mix together the bottom beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 balls, and flatten into patties.
Step 2 Heat the oil in a sizable skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Take away the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.
Step 3 Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour with a fork, scraping items of beef from the bottom as you stir. Gradually mix in the beef broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for approximately 5 minutes, before gravy thickens. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another quarter-hour.
