1. During his gap year, Cumberbatch taught English at a monastery in Tibet.
2. The trench coat which Ben wears in Sherlock actually sold out in stores as so many people wanted to copy his look!
3. Ben is known for being able to do realistic impressions of Alan Rickman and David Tennant!
4. People have said that Benedict is a sex symbol - something which he says he finds quite amusing, and takes it with a pinch of salt.
5. Ben beefed himself up for his role in Star Trek - he went on a strict diet of chicken, potatoes and broccoli, worked out heavily and took in 4000 calories a day!
6. When preparing for the part, he also had to decide how to style his hair - he says he considered having bangs or possibly a ponytail - but in the end settled on the classic slicked-back villain look!
7. Once strange site on the internet has published an article entitled ‘Otters who look like Benedict Cumberbatch’. It is well worth a look.
8. Ben was really happy to find out that David Bowie was a big fan of his performances in Sherlock!
9. The series itself has won a number of BAFTAs - Britain’s most prestigious television awards.
10. Ben was quite surprised to find out that there are a large number of fan fiction stories about his version of Sherlock Holmes - including ones he described as ‘weird’ which take his relationship with Watson to a whole new level...
