The following is based on criteria developed by Professor of Conservation Biology and Wildlife Ecology Paul Beier, School of Forestry, Northern Arizona University, in documenting cougarcaused human deaths. Included within these parameters are attacks that led to death as reported by verifiable sources, such as newspapers, medical records, statements of wildlife personnel, and reports of state or provincial wildlife management agencies where the attacks occurred.
