Inspired by For You … For Me: A Two-Quilt Combo (Dutchman’s Puzzle and Ohio Star)
MATERIALS
2 PRECUT 10˝ SQUARES or 2 PRECUT 2½˝ STRIPS (contrasting colors)
CUTTING
• From 1 square or strip, cut 8 rectangles 2½˝ × 4½˝.
• From the other square or strip, cut 16 squares 2½˝ × 2½˝.
Layer a 2½˝ × 2½˝ square on one end of a 2½˝ × 4½˝ rectangle right sides together and sew from corner to corner on the square. Sew an additional seam ⅜˝ outside the initial seam. Cut between the seamlines. Repeat with another 2½˝ square on the other end of the rectangle, placing the seam in the opposite direction to form a Flying Geese unit and 2 half-square triangle (HST) units. Repeat to make 8 Flying Geese and 16 HST units.

Dutchman’s Puzzle
Sew the 8 Flying Geese units together, first into pairs facing the same direction and then into the block.
Ohio Star
Trim the HST units to 2˝ × 2˝. Sew the HST units together in pairs, alternating the color placement along the seam. Sew the paired HST units together in pairs again to form 4 quarter-blocks.
Sew the quarter-blocks together, rotated as shown.
