“SO, UM, KENI. HOW MANY classes do you have until you graduate?” Dani asks when she hands Keni the cream and sugar. “Actually, two, I’ve already registered. Once I finish these two over the summer, I’ll officially graduate.” I’m so proud of her.

“What teachers do you get to spend the summer with?” Dani lifts her fork to her mouth. A piece of cheesecake for the baby will be her excuse soon enough, no doubt. I don’t know if anyone else noticed how quickly Keni distracted away from the topic. “Keni?” She looks up, “I have Professor Wilson and Manning.”

“Professor Xander Manning?” Dani asks, “Didn’t you have him last semester?” I nearly choke on the sip of coffee. Diesel pats my back, “you okay?” I nod, clear my throat, and look to Keni for clarification.

“I did, but I'll be his assistant this summer.” She places her napkin on her plate, indicating she is done.  “This should be interesting,” I whisper just loud enough for everyone to hear. Keni blushes but doesn’t elaborate. Instead, she redirects the conversation to my ring.

Were my parents disappointed? I don’t think I could ever surprise them with all my antics, and by the look on their faces, I think they were more relieved that I found someone who loves everything about me. They have always taught us to stand up for ourselves, not to change for anyone, and always be true to the person we are.

I look at Diesel. He is my better half. He has been the part I’ve been missing all these years. The one who may even be able to tame my wild side, well, except for in the bedroom maybe, but they don’t need to know about those details.

Dani leans in and kisses Jacob on the cheek. She smiles. Love comes when you least expect it. When it’s your time, you’ll know.
