Fresh Mint and Cilantro Ice Tea
I discovered that mint and cilantro complement each other perfectly when I was at a ten-day silent meditation retreat in Chile—but alas, I couldn’t tell anybody about it! Every day, I would make myself tea with whatever herbs were available, experimenting with all different flavors, until I came upon this magic duo. Simultaneously tantalizing and refreshing, this ice tea is the perfect cold drink to enjoy on a warm day when all you want to do is sit and smile. —MAREA
Serves 4
3 cups/720 ml very hot water (about 180°F/82°C)
5 oz/140 g fresh mint
3 oz/85 g fresh cilantro
Submerge the mint and cilantro leaves in the hot water. Let sit at room temperature for about 1 hour, and then refrigerate until cold, about 11/2 to 2 hours.
Place 2 cups/480 ml ice cubes in a large serving glass. Pour the tea over a mesh strainer into the glass, discarding the leaves. Serve cold.
