Kill the Germs Tea

            SERVES 1

I always make this tea when I am fighting off a cold virus or any other virus, or feel a sinus infection coming on. This is a great way to help your body heal naturally. Mānuka honey, made from the nectar of the mānuka tree grown in New Zealand and Australia, is known for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties; if you can’t find it, local honey may help you with allergies. The ginger and cayenne pepper open up your nasal passages, clear out mucus, and make you sweat out those nasty toxins. The recipe calls for just a dash of cayenne pepper, but I add up to ¼ teaspoon.

       1-inch piece fresh ginger

       Juice of 1 lemon

       1 tablespoon Mānuka honey

       1 dash cayenne pepper

Peel ginger and chop it into small pieces. Place ginger in a container (teapot or jar) and cover with boiling water. Let it steep for five minutes. Strain ginger and add lemon juice, honey, and cayenne pepper. Drink hot.

For a very basic fresh ginger tea that’s a great stomach-soother, simply peel and chop a one-inch piece of ginger, put it in a pot with some water, and bring the water to a boil. Once the water has boiled, let the infusion simmer for a few minutes more. Strain out the ginger pieces and drink, adding lemon if you like. Drinking this has stopped me from taking so many trips to the hospital just by relieving my intense stomach upset.
