I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
ECCLESIASTES 8:15
Don’t you wish there were a perfect formula for becoming all that God purposes for each of us? A handbook to tell us how to navigate each season, how long it will last, what to expect next? It would be so easy to stay focused if that were the case! Alas, there’s no magic formula, but I can give you a key to ensure you won’t get stuck in a season: renegotiate your life on a regular basis.
People, circumstances, and seasons are continually changing; to have and do God’s “all,” we must learn to change with them. What we did yesterday to succeed in a particular season will not necessarily work for us today or tomorrow.
For instance, it would be unwise of me to think I could run as hard now as I did when I was in my early twenties. Having a husband and family to consider, I’ve had to refocus my priorities, removing certain things and adding others. As my children grow, new doors open, and we move into new seasons, we will have to adjust accordingly.
Having and doing all God wants for us is a constant process of change — a continual ebb and flow from one season to the next. That’s why we must remain malleable, flexible, open to what God wants to do in and through us in every season.
MOMENT OF REFLECTION
Do you see yourself as flexible enough to renegotiate your situation regularly?
In what areas are you least flexible?
