Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach.
ISAIAH 54:4
I’m not going to lie to you; sometimes I can have a very selective memory. Like when Nick and I are having a “passionate discussion” about a particular topic, and I realize he’s wrong, I can remember exactly what he said, how he said it, what he was wearing, where he was standing, and what we ate for lunch later that day. But when the tables are turned, and I realize I’m the one who is mistaken, my memory can tend to get a bit murky. “Huh? What? Ummm . . . yeah . . . I can’t seem to recall anything about that day. Nick, are you sure you didn’t dream up that conversation?”
So often, we can vividly remember those things we ought to forget and completely forget those things we ought to remember! In life, choosing to remember the right things can help us to have great endurance . . . especially during the difficult seasons.
Let’s make the choice to remember the good and not the bad. We can choose to remember and dwell on the incredible things God has already done in our lives, rather than get so wrapped up in the problems of today, along with the junk that happened yesterday, and the negative stuff that we think might happen tomorrow!
MOMENT OF REFLECTION
Are you remembering the right things and forgetting those things that keep you beaten down and powerless?
Why is that important?
