Could It Be Me?

Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.

GALATIANS 6:5 MSG

Nick and I were recently in a meeting where I was encouraged to ask myself a question that I had never actually stopped to think about before. That is, “What is it about me that keeps me from becoming the best me that God wants me to be?” What a great question! Invariably, though, this question led to numerous other questions that concerned everything about me.

My thinking . . . my attitudes . . . my perceptions . . . my opinions . . . my experiences . . . my expectations . . . my friends . . . my associates . . . my knowledge . . . my understanding . . . my tolerance . . . my emotions . . . my reactions . . . my health . . . my fitness . . . my diet . . . my prejudices . . . my biases . . . my preferences . . . my routines . . . just to name a few!

To be honest, I would definitely prefer to just blame outside forces for me not being all that I can be. (After all, this would be far easier and a lot less painful.) But ultimately, the only person I can change is me, and if I want to step up and into the purposes of God for my life and fulfill my life assignment, then I must take full responsibility for my own growth. This starts and ends with me!

MOMENT OF REFLECTION

What is it about you that keeps you from becoming the best you that God wants you to be?
