Love is a magnetic force that attracts an infinite amount of goodness into our cells. Love makes us radiant and tipsy with joy. In times of stress or trauma, however, it can be hard to locate the love. Identify what you love. Give your darlings props no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. This simple act reminds us that life is too sweet to be bitter. Make a list and watch it grow. Love is innocent, it thrives off of acknowledgment just like we do. It’s amazing how many beautiful things we notice when we take the time to look.
Notice the love and invite it to tea. Don’t be a one-dimensional cancer patient. Monotonous city! If you play the cancer, cancer, cancer tape, then that’s all you’ll get back. When I was an actress in New York, I did my best to avoid the out-of-work actors (such as myself). Most of us were so desperate and blinded by our blood-thirst for fame that we saw nothing of the world around us: War. Huh? Darfur. Is that a new theater? Global warming. I know, I hate that, too. Makes me sweat my makeup off. Cancer. Eww, total crimp in my style. Can I bum a cigarette? Among my fellow thespians, I knew who would rise to stardom by how broad their focus was. If they read the paper, had a hobby, and talked about more than themselves, chances were they’d get work. The me, me, me, the-world-revolves-around-me types were shoo-ins for the unemployment line.
