Living consciously is a win-win situation. It is enjoyable, much more so than living on automatic pilot, plugged in to a device but unplugged from the environment we live in. Living consciously is also healthy, not only for us personally but also for the planet we live on. We can’t make healthy choices in our life unless we have a basic level of information and are in tune with the natural laws that govern our physical health and the environment.
So the last section of the book will explore issues relating to home being a healthy environment. Building biologist Narelle McDonald took the lead in writing A healthier home’, which looks at how we can help to keep our home free of unnecessary or excessive exposure to the chemicals and pollutants that are so ubiquitous these days. ‘A sustainable home’ explores how we can reduce the home’s environmental footprint and use energy and resources more efficiently. But environment is not just about chemicals, water, energy and air.
It is also about living a measured life, about our own health and wellbeing, and about people, place and community. So the last chapter, ‘A measured life’, will give a brief overview of how to mindfully care for our physical health, as well as exploring the social environment and how we engage with the neighbourhood and wider community.
