Chapter 25

You think we should invite Bob, Flip, and Fawn over for Easter?” Mom was flipping through the calendar. “Bart, do any of them have family close by?”

“I don’t know. We don’t talk much about that kind of stuff.”

“Riley, do they ever mention anything like that to you?”

“No. Not really.” (I was pretty sure Flip wasn’t going to bake a ham at his “home” at the Swiftriver office, but I couldn’t say anything about that.)

“Well, I think it’s a good idea. All they can say is no, right?”

They probably would say no. But I didn’t want to disappoint my mom, so I went along with it.

“Yeah, sure. Let’s do it.”

“Great. I’ll talk to them on Saturday after the photo shoot.”

“Another one?” I was hoping I would get to play softball next week. Nope.

“One more before spring break. This one’s at the community pool — for the flip-flop collection.”

I looked out at the wind whipping through our trees in the front yard. “Brrrr.”

“Quit your complaining,” Mom said.

“Okay, but I’m not wearing a bathing suit.”

“Unless they say so.” Dad wagged his finger at me.

“Ugh!”
