HILDUR MARIA BERGGREN. She was born on June 24, 1906 in Sundsvall, Sweden—a town north of Stockholm. Her future husband, Waldemar Lindquist, had already immigrated to the United States in 1926, but returned to Sweden several times to visit Hildur before asking for her hand in marriage in 1931. The couple married in Sweden on February 22, 1931. Hildur and Waldemar sailed from Goteborg to New York. As the Depression raged, they took a train to Chicago where they moved into a small apartment at Damen and Lincoln Avenues. Later, the two would settle in the Andersonville neighborhood and raise two children. (Courtesy of Elsie Lindgren.)
