What About Commissions?

image

A broker will likely charge more for a limit order than for a stop order. This is due to the limit order being a little more specific in nature. Check with your broker to determine the charges for an added commission. Of course, anything that is more complicated will cost extra. Typical brokers charge a few cents per share for stop and limit orders. Expect to spend around 10 to 30 cents per share for such an order. The total might be greater if the underlying stock price is higher or the volatility of the trade is greater. A broker will charge this as an insurance policy of sorts. The cost also ensures the trading platform the broker operates will stay functional.
