You will notice that some exchanges allow some stocks to be traded as early as 6 am Eastern. This might sound interesting, but this is not something you would want to incorporate into your strategy. Mutual funds are not going to be active that early in the morning. More importantly, early trading does not often, if ever, make an impact on a stock. People might just be getting up and planning their moves for when the actual trading day starts. Some international investors might participate in early trading, but those are few and far between. You would be more likely to find those investors working with stocks in their own local regions. Therefore, you should not assume that the early trading period is going to be profitable for you.
