IWOULD LIKE TO NOTE that an earlier, shorter version my first chapter, "The End of Modern History in the Middle East," was printed in London in 1997 for limited private circulation under the title "Predictions."
My second chapter, "Propaganda in the Middle East," also appeared in earlier forms: as a short paper entitled "Propaganda in the Pre-Modern Middle East: A Preliminary Classification," it was published by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Faculty of Humanities, in their series Jerusalem Studies in Arabic and Islam, Volume 25 (2001), pp. 1–14. It was later reprinted in my book From Babel to Dragomans: Interpreting the Middle East, Oxford University Press, New York, 2004, pp. 97–113.
"Iran: Haman or Cyrus?" is based on the transcription of a lecture. It has been available on some websites but has not been published in printed form.
Chapter Four, "The New Anti-Semitism," is based on an article published in the American Scholar, Vol. 75, No. 1, Winter 2006, pp. 25–36.
