CHAPTER 48

“How have you been holding up?”

“Okay, I guess.” Theresa said, using the remote control to turn the TV volume down. “You wouldn’t believe how much you can learn by watching daytime television. It’s so fascinating!” Theresa said sarcastically.

“Well, you just sit tight; I’m looking into who really sent those letters. I know you could never do a thing like that.”

“It’s good to know that somebody believes me, that somebody is on my side.”

“I’m always on your side. I told you that. I really have a strong hunch on who was setting you up, but—”

“Really? Who do you think it was?”

“I can’t say right now—”

“I lost my job, remember? If you think you know who did it…”

“I have a hunch, but that’s it for now. But don’t worry, I’m on the right track, we’ll have the culprit soon and you’ll have your job back. I promise.”

Theresa sighed. “I guess that’s better than nothing. Thanks for all your help, Jackie, you’ve been a lifesaver.”

“Girl, you know I got your back.”
