CHAPTER 53
That was stupid.
Jackie took another sip of her drink and tried to keep her mind on her favorite television program, but couldn’t. Her mind kept going back to her lunchtime conversation with Yolanda.
That was a mistake.
She finished her drink and went to the kitchen to fix another. She added more vodka this time, because the alcohol made her think better. Made her mind clearer.
I’ve gotta think this one out.
She sat down on her sleek stainless steel bar stool. It wasn’t comfortable, but comfort wasn’t her issue right now.
I have to get myself out of this mess. Everything was going so perfectly. Theresa was gone, and her mother had no choice but to pick her as the new creative director.
Maybe Yolanda won’t say anything. I mean, how can she? She doesn’t have any proof; it would be her word against mine. If she does blab to Maxwell, I’ll just tell mother that they’re sleeping together and were trying to sabotage me, because they know I’m next in line for the position. It really doesn’t matter what I say; she don’t got nothing on me.
Still, she could not convince herself Yolanda was not a problem. She gulped her drink down and poured yet another, adding more vodka than before, plotting a way to get Yolanda fired. Yolanda, baby, you’re going down.
