CHAPTER 63
Everything looks different.
Smaller.
Yolanda looks down at her hands and realizes she’s different. She’s all grown up.
She’s an adult.
She sees the other Yolandas across the playground.
They’re still little girls.
As they approach, they’re laughing at her.
“MONSTER FACE! MONSTER FACE! MONSTER FACE!” they chant.
Yolanda reaches up and touches her face.
She feels the angry cuts she had inflicted on herself.
Angry, she charges the group of Yolandas, and single-handedly strikes them all down dead.
The playground is filled with dead little Yolandas.
She walks toward the swings, stepping over dead bodies along the way.
She gets on the swing, and pushes herself hard and fast, pumping her long legs furiously to go higher.
The wind blows through her hair, and she looks up at the sky.
The sun is shining.
* * *
Yolanda turned over in her sleep, a smile on her face.
