“I think you need to look at Trey like relationship sorbet.” Callie announced to Ella the next day as they shared a tub of ice cream. “He could be like a palate cleanser from your ex.”
“Really? You want me to go there? He is literally the one that rejected me.”
“Well, if you mean Trey and not the idiot you just left, I would beg to differ. His body might have pushed you away a few years ago, but girl, his eyes were eating you up last night.”
Ella put her tub of ice cream down and took her time before she responded. “Yes, he would be good for the ego, but he’s not interested in me. He made that very clear, and last night he was just shocked to find me in the club.”
“So, if you’re not going to go after him, that means I can ask him out?” Callie asked as she spooned in the caramel crunch ice cream.
Ella winced. “Well, technically yes, but I wouldn’t recommend him. And anyway, what happened to my brother? I thought he was who you wanted.”
“Well, I still think you should try. You never know, he might think differently now than a few years ago.” Callie hesitated. “Maybe you could suggest Ben and Trey could meet us at the club before it opens to have drink and catch-up?”
Ella looked at her friend. “You know I would never recommend my brother either don’t you? He’s a baseballer through and through and the reputation to match.”
“I know, but I always feel something when I’m with him.”
Ella snorted. “I bet he wished you would feel something of his.”
Callie tossed her silky black hair over her shoulder. “A girl has to play hard to get sometimes. I can’t make it easy for him. He has too many of those ball bunnies hanging around now. I don’t want to be one of them.”
Ella leaned across to hug her friend. “And you won’t be. He’d be lucky to win you over.” She grinned, “But sooner or later you are going to have to put him out of his misery. You two have been circling each other for months.”
“I know. I’m just wanting him to settle more before I make my final move. And anyway, we are talking about you and Trey. Drinks for the four of us? Squiggly will let us have a back room to ourselves for privacy.”
Ella nodded. “Sounds good. But what do I wear to win the man who rejected me years ago?”
“So you are interested?”
Ella smiled. ‘I’ve always been interested in him. It was Trey that pulled back. And after douchebag ex I feel as if I have lost some confidence.” Ella shrugged at her friend. ‘What do I do now? What’s next?”
“That my friend, means we go shopping!”
