UPDATE ON CHINA / TAIWAN
To all UK Media Outlets:
- China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has moved 11 warships into the Taiwan Strait. Satellite evidence reveals that commercial ships are being concentrated in ports close to the city of Xiamen. PLA Marines and Infantry units are being moved to bases along the coast opposite Taiwan.
- Taiwan’s defence ministry said today it had detected 19 Chinese military aircraft flying inside its Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). These include nuclear-capable strategic bombers, ground attack aircraft and electronic warfare aircraft.
- Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence further detected a surveillance balloon that had crossed the Taiwan Strait median line.
- The UK, in cooperation with its allies and partners in the region, condemns China’s military build-up and warns against any attempt to threaten or invade the self-governing island of Taiwan by force.
