Canyon Hollow/Ghost Falls Trail

This trail climbs the main canyon, parallel to Corner Canyon Creek, up to Ghost Falls. Intermixed with shaded singletrack, gravel road, and riverside travel, there are also a couple trail options that allow you to make the hike a lollipop or to take in the hikers-only Burnham Loop, which was designed as a nature trail for elementary-school-age children. Ghost Falls, so named because no one is certain where the water comes from, is a beautiful cooling station and a highlight of the Corner Canyon trail system. Because the Corner Canyon trails sit at a lower elevation, the snow melts off these trails earlier than most and they are some of the first to be accessed in spring.

The Hike

Coyote Hollow is Corner Canyon’s most popular trailhead. Trail maps are available at the trailhead and are restocked several times a week. The land that is now Corner Canyon Regional Park was purchased by Draper City in 2005 in order to protect the land and watershed from the massive residential development taking place in the Draper foothills. The park’s 1,021 acres are in the process of continued development, and pristine mountain trails continue to be added per the master plan. This trail system is open to all nonmotorized use, so everyone works together to be respectful to a variety of users as well as to the land.

Head east out of Coyote Hollow trailhead and follow the Bonneville Shoreline Trail into the canyon. In 0.3 mile come to a large T junction with the Canyon Hollow Trail, which heads east on a gravel service road. Turn right and head east down the gravel road.

In 0.1 mile from the intersection (0.4 mile) you will see Burnham Loop Trail off the north side of the road. This is an added trail option. At 0.6 mile the trail leaves the gravel road and heads to the right onto a packed-dirt, forest trail shaded by a canopy of maple and scrub oak. The trail continues in these beautiful, cool surroundings all the way to Ghost Falls.

Canyon Hollow/Ghost Falls Trail

At 1.0 mile you will see where the North Loop intersects Canyon Hollow Trail from the left via a bridge. Continue straight on what is known as the South Loop. The South Loop is shaded and cool, whereas the North Loop is more rocky and dry. The North Loop section is only 0.3 mile to Ghost Falls; the South Loop is 0.8 mile.

Following the South Loop, at 1.4 miles Ghost Falls Trail intersects the Canyon Hollow Trail. Bear left for the last 0.2 mile to reach Ghost Falls in 2.6 miles. A bridge sits at the foot of the falls. Watch for poison ivy around the waterfall. Take time to shoot some photos or just sit on the rocks and enjoy the shaded alcove into which the waterfall flows.

Return the way you came, or cross the bridge for the North Loop option and continue down the trail on the other side.

Options

Option 1: The Canyon Hollow to Ghost Falls hike can also be done as a lollipop. Instead of returning on the South Loop, cross the bridge at the foot of the falls and continue on the North Loop. The North Loop is rockier and has less shade, but it cuts 0.5 mile from the hike. The North Loop runs through watershed area, so domestic animals are prohibited on that portion of the trail.

Option 2: Burnham Loop Trail. Located 0.4 mile from the Coyote Hollow trailhead, the Burnham Loop is the only hikers-only trail in Corner Canyon. This short loop was developed as a nature trail for elementary-school-age children. Two streams run through the area, and the trail has a log bench made from an old cottonwood tree and rock stairs and granite chunks to climb on.

The trail begins next to Corner Creek, and at the top of the trail you cross Burnham Creek on the bridge to the right. The trail continues down on the other side of the bridge. As you head down this side of the loop, you are back next to Corner Creek. The Burnham Loop dumps you right back onto the Canyon Hollow Trail 0.1 mile further up the trail.
