This unique dish’s prep time is minimal. All the magic that gives flavor to this recipe happens during the 2 hours it cooks in the oven, where the flavors fuse together and the honey settles into the pork. The incredible taste of the finished stew is the final reward for the wait. If you follow my steps, I guarantee you’ll have the wow factor in this dish!

INGREDIENTS:

2 pounds pork for stew, cut into pieces

5 cloves garlic

1 ginger root

1 tablespoon red peppercorns

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 tablespoon star anise

¼ cup honey

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 cup sake

1 cup chicken broth

2 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped

PREPARATION:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. In a stovetop–safe baking tray over a burner on high heat, cook the pork until golden brown on all sides. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the cilantro, stir to combine, and place in the oven to cook for 2 hours.

3. Remove from the oven and serve garnished with the cilantro.

chef james tip >> You can use any leftover pork the next day to make delicious sandwiches with mustard and salt on toasted bread. The honey-flavored pork goes really well with mustard and crunchy bread. And that’s how easy it is to have another delicious meal in minutes!
