“Are you sure about this, Carrie?” Lex asked her for the millionth time in less than an hour. Lex had been invited to an off-campus party by a few of their mutual friends. She was going to turn it down for the sake of Carrie before she shut down that idea. She wasn’t going to parties, but that didn’t mean that she was going to stop anyone else from having fun. Of course, Carrie was worried about Lex and what could happen once she got there, but she had to trust that she could take care of herself. What happened to Carrie had been unfortunate and scary, but that had never happened to either one of them in nearly three years. The odds were in Lex’s favor that she was going to have a good night.
“I’m going to be fine. You have fun there. I’m going to sit on my ass, binge Netflix, and eat a lot of unhealthy food. It’s the ultimate night in,” she tried to convince her friend.
After Lex asked her a few more times, she was finally out the door. Carrie loved her friend, but she hated the way that her and Asher were looking at her these days. Like she was fragile. Like she would break if they brought up a certain topic. She just wanted to go to the day of that last party and stay in, and hopefully, everything would be the same.
Since time travel wasn’t an option for her, she had to make do with things as they were. First, she decided to get into some of her comfiest clothes—an old tank top with holes in it paired with a pair of cotton shorts that she’d had since she was in high school. The goal was to be comfy, not stylish. She was just putting her long hair up in a messy ponytail when she heard a knock on their front door. She assumed it was Lex—she had a terrible habit of forgetting her keys—and went to answer it, already joking with her friend before she even had the door open.
“I swear you would lose your head if it wasn’t—” She froze in surprise as she took in her visitor, who was most definitely not Lex.
It was David.
“What are you doing here?”
“Someone let me in. I just needed to see you.”
“Oh.”
Stupid, she thought to herself, that’s all you can think to say?
“Can I come in?”
“Yeah,” she immediately said. She turned around and led the way to their living room, belatedly realizing that what she was wearing wasn’t exactly appropriate for visitors. She didn’t even have a damn bra on. She folded her hands around her chest to cover her already budding nipples. Could a hole in the ground open up and swallow her whole? Please?
“What’s going on?” The quicker she could get him out the door, the sooner she could die of embarrassment. When he remained silent, she raised an eyebrow and stood up straighter. “David?”
He seemed to shake himself out of wherever his mind had gone. He moved so he was closer to her, barely a foot away, close enough that she could reach out and place her hand on his chest if she wanted. Which she didn’t. Not at all.
“Where’s Lex?” His voice was deep and rough; it sent a thrill down her spine.
“At a party,” she said quietly. She was almost afraid to speak too loud in fear that it would ruin whatever moment was sprouting between them.
“You didn’t want to go?”
She shook her head. “Not really.”
He gave her a satisfied grin. “Good girl.”
What the hell was happening right now? Was she dreaming?
She couldn’t deny that a flush of pleasure ran through her body when hearing those two words coming out of his mouth.
“What’s going on, David?” she asked him. She was afraid that he was going to laugh and tell her that he was joking. She wanted this to be true.
He sighed. “What’s going on is...” He seemed to struggle for his next words as he thought long and hard before saying, “I’m tired of staying away from you.”
She thought she gasped, but she wasn’t aware of anything other than those words—those words that she’d been dying to hear for so long now. This was too good to be true. It had to be.
“What?” It was all she could coherently say.
He slowly took the few remaining steps that separated the two of them. Once he was directly in front of her, he lifted his hands and placed them on both sides of her throat.
“I don’t want to stay away from you anymore,” he whispered.
Their lips were so close that, when he spoke to her, she could feel his lips moving against hers.
“Then don’t.”
No words were needed after that, which was good because her mouth was busy. While his lips devoured hers, she felt one of his hands move to the nape of her neck, grabbing a small fistful of her hair. He didn’t pull, but just the feeling of his fingers grabbing her hair had another shot of pleasure racing through her body.
He bit down on her lip. She gasped, which he took as an invitation to explore her mouth with his tongue. She loved the way he was acting, dominant and so sure of himself. The few other men she’d been with never seemed to know what they were doing and always acted like they’d rather her take the lead. David wasn’t like any of them.
They had to break away for air eventually, but his lips didn’t leave her body. He kissed down from her lips to her neck where he left openmouthed kisses. She was pretty sure that the way he was kissing and sucking on her skin would leave marks, but she couldn’t find it in herself to care.
Her hands had found their way under his shirt where she was exploring his corded muscles. She was surprised by how soft his skin felt against hers. It just made her even more anxious to feel him against her with no barriers at all.
“Carrie,” he groaned against her skin. “Tell me to stop.”
She gasped out, “Why?”
He trailed kisses up to behind her ear where he already knew she was sensitive. She could’ve come with just that sensation alone. When he bit down on her earlobe, she felt like her knees were about to give out. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d ever felt even close to this.
His gruff voice whispered in her ear, “Because if I don’t stop now, I won’t be able to stop later.”
He knew what he was implying, she wasn’t stupid, but she would’ve been stupid if she did what he said and told him to stop.
“Don’t stop, David.” She swallowed past a small bundle of nerves. “I want you.”
He looked at her for a few minutes as he tried to catch her in a lie, but she knew that he would find nothing but sincerity and lust in her expression. She’d never been more sure of anything in her entire life.
“Are you sure?” She appreciated the way that he was making sure she was all for this, but all she really wanted was to get him to her bedroom and find out just how soft his skin would feel against hers.
“Yes.”
She’d barely gotten the word out before their lips met again. There was no hint of sweetness or gentleness with this kiss. It was rough and hard, which was just how she wanted it. He started backing up towards the hallway where the rooms were located.
“Which one’s yours?” he asked against her lips.
“The first one,” she gasped out.
He backed her into her room, and she heard him shut the door behind them. She expected him to take her to her bed, but instead, he spun her around and pushed her against the wood of her door. She heard the lock click into place and then his arms were everywhere.
“God, you’re killing me,” he groaned when he realized that she wasn’t wearing a bra. His hands were under her shirt and took hold of her breasts. She gasped into his mouth as she felt his fingers tug on her nipples and pull them until they were hard buds.
“David,” she moaned as she felt her arousal grow at the way he was manipulating her body.
“Yes?” he asked with just a hint of smugness at the way that he could clearly see how turned on she was.
She couldn’t find it in her to care.
“Touch me, David,” she begged. She thought she would explode if he stopped now. She wouldn’t be able to be held accountable for her actions.
That’s when she heard the front door open and footsteps entering the dorm. She froze as she heard Lex’s voice.
“Carrie, I fucking forgot my keys again. What is this, like the fourth time I’ve done that?” She laughed at her own joke, but Carrie was only half listening. After he froze for just a second, David didn’t seem inclined to stop what they were doing.
“Shh,” he whispered in her ear before he slipped his hands into her shorts and pushed them down her legs. She wasn’t wearing anything under them, so she was naked from the waist down. She didn’t have time to feel embarrassed before he dropped to his knees in front of her, pulled her leg onto his shoulder, and left hot kisses on her inner thighs.
“Carrie? Are you here?” She heard Lex call out as she got closer. She slapped a hand over her mouth as David’s tongue touched her in her most intimate spot. There was no way that she could get through this without tipping Lex off to what was happening. She wasn’t stupid. Lex would be able to put two and two together and figure out just what and who Carrie was doing.
Just as David lapped at her with his tongue and inserted a finger into her tight channel, she felt Lex knock on her door. She jumped a foot in the air but made sure that she kept a tight grip on her mouth to stop any sound from coming out.
“Carrie? Are you in there?”
Her body was there, but with the way that David was touching her, she was pretty sure that her mind was a million miles away. He inserted another finger and began thrusting them in and out of her in the same rhythm as his tongue swirling her clit.
Carrie hoped that Lex would assume she’d gone to the bathroom or something. She was pleased when she heard her footsteps retreat and the door close. When she didn’t hear anything else, she finally dropped her hand and grabbed David’s hair. She moaned into the room as she could feel her orgasm creeping in.
“Oh, God, I’m so close,” she panted.
He didn’t hesitate before bringing a third finger up, joining the other two. She screamed as he curved them so that they’d hit that certain spot. She saw white spots as she fell over the precipice. He lapped at her center until she had to push him away because of how sensitive she was.
“You’re such a fucking good girl, getting fucked by my fingers with your friend on the other side of the door. You enjoyed that, didn’t you?” he groaned.
She couldn’t find it in herself to feel embarrassed. She just nodded her head. Part of her thought that he would leave her now, but instead, he took her hand and led her to her bed. He lifted her shirt off of her body, leaving her bare while he was still fully clothed. She was just about to comment before he pushed her backward so she landed on her mattress.
From this angle, her eyes feasted on the gloriousness that was David Clarke. His body was just pure perfection. When her eyes got to his very prominent erection, she felt her eyebrows raise. She could already tell that he was larger than her past partners.
“I’m nowhere near finished with you yet, baby. This is just the beginning.”
He reached a hand behind his neck and pulled his shirt off before he threw it to the side. His hands moved to the buttons on his jeans and, before she could even figure out how he did it, his clothes were off and he was laying his body over hers. She felt every inch of him, every inch, against her body. If someone told her that she had died and gone to Heaven, she wouldn’t blink twice. If this was Heaven, she never wanted to come back down to Earth.
“Do you have a condom?” he asked her after a few moments of kissing and mapping each other’s bodies with their hands.
She was suddenly very glad to have Lex as a friend. When they had moved their things into the dorm at the beginning of the semester, she had insisted that Carrie keep a box of condoms in her bedside drawer even though at the time she hadn’t thought she would ever use them.
“Bedside table,” she told him. He quickly dug through her drawer. When he found the package, he gave her a smug grin before tearing into the plastic and pulling one out.
He sheathed himself in the latex before giving her one last look.
“Are you sure about this?” She loved that he cared about her so much that he wanted to make sure that she wasn’t going to regret anything.
“Yes, David. I’m sure.”
He slowly pushed himself into her warm core. She gasped as she felt every single inch of him. He wasn't even completely inside her, and it was already better than her wildest imaginings.
Once their hips were flush against each other, he paused, as if he was trying to reign in his control, but the thing was... she wanted him to lose his control, she wanted him to lose himself inside her.
“David, what are you doing?” she asked him, shakily.
“I’m trying to go slow.” His voice came out as more of a groan.
Since his head was lying against her neck, she pulled him up so she would be able to look into her eyes.
“We have all the time in the world to go slow. I want you, David. All of you.” She tried to implore him with her eyes. She didn’t need slow and sweet, at least not right now, she needed more. “I’m not a fragile little girl. I can take it.”
He shook his head. “You don’t know what you’re asking, sweetheart.”
“Yes, I do.” She lifted her head so she could pull him into her for a fierce kiss before she pulled away just enough so she could be able to speak. “Let go, David. Give me everything you’ve got.”
He groaned loudly before he began to thrust in and out of her at a hard and demanding pace. Her hands were busy trying to pull him even closer to her. She was pretty sure that her nails were going to make marks on his back, but she couldn’t find it in herself to care. Part of her loved that when he would go to work on Monday, her marks would be all over him.
“Damn it, baby, you feel so good,” he grunted in her ear. “You were made for me, Carrie. For. Me.” His last words were punctuated by his hips pushing into hers hard enough that she could feel bruises beginning to form.
She loved every moment.
“It’s all for you, David. Just you.” She wasn’t even sure what she was talking about, but he seemed to take great pleasure from hearing her words. He sat up so he was on his knees and grabbed one of her legs behind the knee before spreading her legs further apart. At the new position, she felt like he sunk unbelievably deeper inside her. She felt like she was going to break clean apart, and she loved it.
She could tell that he was getting close. He must’ve sensed that she wasn’t far behind him. He reached down and swirled a finger around her clit, and she jumped at the added sensation.
“Come for me, baby. Give it to me,” he growled at her. He fucking growled. She didn’t need anything else and, before she knew it, she was screaming out as her orgasm barreled into her. She was on cloud nine. She barely registered the way that he pounded into her before stilling and releasing the sexiest sound she’d ever heard.
As she was coming back down to Earth, she realized that he was lying over her body, clearly out of breath.
“Wow,” was all she could think of to say.
He chuckled into her shoulder. “I was thinking the same thing.”
They lay like that for minutes or hours before he finally rolled off of her and headed towards her shared bathroom. He returned moments later with a wet cloth that he used to clean her up before throwing it in her hamper and laying down next to her again.
After a few moments of silence, she couldn’t handle it any longer. “Well... that happened.”
He laughed out loud. His hand reached over and traced circles over her stomach.
“Yes, it did.”
“At the risk of sounding too much like a girl... What was that?” She should’ve probably asked him about his intentions before they had sex, but now that the fog had lifted, she needed to know what they were going to be.
She watched his expression closely and was pleased that nothing changed. He just gave her a reassuring smile before leaning over and leaving a kiss on her shoulder.
“I’m not really sure. After that barbecue, I was going to go home, but when I saw your text... I came straight here. I knew I just needed to see you.”
It wasn’t the heartfelt words that she was wanting to hear, but they were sweet nevertheless.
“So was this just a one-time thing...”
He shook his head immediately. She felt some of the tension that was in her shoulders leave. “One time, one night isn’t going to be enough to cure my need for you, but... we’re going to need to be careful. John isn’t going to be happy that this happened, especially if we continue to see each other. I don’t want to be the reason behind you and your brother not talking.”
She shook her head. “John doesn’t get to decide who I do or don’t date.” He sighed, but she continued before he could say anything. “Anyway, there’s a chance that he could be all for this. You’re his best friend.”
It was his turn to shake his head. “He’s not going to be happy.” His voice took such a knowing turn that she couldn’t find any part of her that could deny him.
“So, what are we going to do?”
“I just need to figure out how to show your brother that I’m not the man I was in college. That I can be worthy of being your boyfriend.”
“You are, David. You are more than worthy.” He gave her a gentle smile in response. “So we should probably keep whatever this is away from John until we know that he won’t blow up, right?”
She hated the thought of keeping such a big secret from her brother, but she hated the thought of being away from David even more.
“It won’t be for too long. Now that I have you I want the whole world to know. I want to shout it from the rooftops.”
Despite knowing that they were doing the right thing, it still left a pit in the center of her stomach that she was pretty sure wouldn’t go away until John knew. It was better than the alternative, she thought to herself.
He looked over at the clock that she had on her nightstand and sighed as he took in the red numbers.
“I should probably go. I’ve got a lot of legal documents to go over for work come Monday.”
Before he could fully sit up, she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Stay, please, at least until I fall asleep,” she begged him. For just one more night, she wanted to remember what it was like to fall asleep next to the man that she’d been crushing on for so long.
He didn’t hesitate before he sunk back down into the bed and pulled her into his arms. Her back was against his chest, and his arm was wrapped around her stomach while she was using his other arm as a pillow. It was the most comfortable she’d ever been.
It didn’t take her long before she could feel her eyelids fluttering shut. Just before she went under, though, she heard David say something.
“I’m going to be the man you deserve, Carrie.”
She didn’t respond, but she did fall asleep with a smile on her face and not a single doubt in her mind.
