Even in the case of a quick, slightly absentminded reading, all will sense something wrong with this text. If nails, for example, were pried out, or band-aids removed, something about the sound will be off. In the instant before it lets go of the wall, the nail will be silent; and the band-aid, maybe, should have been of a more elastic variety. Even the reader’s own inner voice seems to have been dubbed by an actor. If one holds up a hand mirror while reading, to all it’s clear: the lips don’t move in full accord with what is actually said.
