Neretha (In Flight)

I took a sip of my glass of wine as soon as the luxury flyer was stable. On the seat beside me was one confused redhead. Amy was secured in the seat behind me.

“Oh, ladies, it will all work out for us. Don’t worry,” I said as I took another swig.

“What happened to the men that bought us?” Molly wondered, a brow arched.

“They technically didn’t buy us,” I corrected. “I bought us.”

“What?” Molly and Amy asked in unison. I relaxed back in my seat and decided that I would tell my sisters the truth.

“I grew up on Neretha, remember? That means I have had years to come up with a plan. Ever since I was twelve, I’ve had visions. At first it started out as flashes. I’d get glimpses of crashing markets, bad business ventures, and opportunities. At first, I’d write the stuff down, in case I needed it for later. It wasn’t until I was thirteen when I overheard my father talking to Lia. He talked about going to Earth and seducing more women. The problem is, none of the women that he had children with willingly slept with him. Father’s sister, Treen, lives on Earth. She locates then mentally controls women of my father’s choosing. I guess I had always thought that the women in dad’s harem had always wanted to be there. My sense of justice couldn’t let this continue. But I was only a thirteen-year-old girl. What could I do?”

“Jack crap,” Molly responded while I took another sip of wine.

“Exactly,” I said. “It wasn’t until I was fourteen when the glimpses turned into straight-up visions. I saw it all, the bidding, what would become of all of us. I was determined to change it. So I snuck out of the palace, and found a poor commoner who would take all of my advice. That was easy. So he began amassing a fortune, saving credits for me. As soon as I turned seventeen, I approached the lords that bid on you guys. I told them that if they bid on you, I’d pay the bid and pay them handsomely. They agreed, since they were nearly destitute. Now, we are on our way to the headquarters of the resistance,” I announced.

“Resistance?” Amy asked. “What’s that?”

“A safe haven that I built. As soon as we arrive, our trackers and crystals will be removed. Then, we will lie low until Jade’s friends come,” I informed my sisters.

“What friends?” Amy squeaked.

“Dad made a huge mistake by taking my twin. She’s kind and well loved. Once her people come, he will be destroyed.”
