The play never breaks stride. The Comedian moves from conversations to gigs seamlessly.
The conversations the Comedian has with his Girlfriend and the Agent happen around him. There is no need for them to be seen as ‘proper’ scenes.
The Comedian is always either ‘offstage’ (in conver sation or warming up for a gig) or ‘onstage’ (doing a ‘live’ gig and talking directly to the audience).
The Comedian rarely moves from centre stage. It’s as if the spotlight is on him all the time (though it isn’t).
The venues the Comedian is playing get progressively bigger – he starts off in a small dingy comedy club and ends up somewhere like the Apollo in London.
At the start and end of each gig there will be appropriate canned laughter.
