PART 3

HOW TO USE THE CARDS

Now that we’ve looked at the diverse archetypes of the Major and Minor Arcanas in depth, we can finally get to the fun part: doing readings! Each card is like a brilliant pigment of color. When blended together, they can create vibrant new hues and entire landscapes. A reading that resonates is truly a masterpiece. It marries imagery with reality. A good reading can provide amazing clarity to a situation that once felt amorphous and elusive. Learning how to blend tarot symbolism comes with experience. The most important guide for this process will be your own intuition.

The following chapters will provide a variety of spreads to get the most out of your tarot deck. However, this list of spreads merely scratches the surface of what you can do on your own. Try to invent your own tarot spreads. Craft them around a specific area of concern or a truth that you want brought to light.

I will also cover significator cards and how to use them in a reading. If you are unfamiliar with significator cards or don’t know the first thing about how to choose one, then read on!

Finally, I will provide some tips and tricks for how to read other individuals (sometimes called “querents”) effectively. Many readers choose to only read for themselves, and that is perfectly fine. Tarot is a marvelous tool for journaling, self-exploration, meditation, and many other forms of Spirit work. If you do decide to bravely read for others, the tips provided may be of use to you. They are some of the most important lessons that I have learned over the years, and they inform my tarot practice to this day.

Let’s get started!
