ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR

Robert Bagg is a graduate of Amherst College (1957). He received his PhD in English from the University of Connecticut (1965) and taught at the University of Washington (1963–65) and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1965–96), where he served as Graduate Director (1982–86) and Department Chair (1986–92). His awards include grants from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, the NEA and NEH, and the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations. His translations of Greek drama have been staged in sixty productions on three continents. Bagg, who is writing a critical biography of Richard Wilbur, lives in western Massachusetts with his wife, Mary Bagg, a freelance writer and editor.
