FEEDS
Harnessing the awesome power of jello, this powerful dish will heighten your senses
INGREDIENTS
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3½ tablespoons butter, at room temperature
½ cup superfine sugar
1 egg (not Eggo)
Gelatin (enough for 5 cups of water)
Blue food coloring Ladyfingers
2 ounces chocolate (white or milk)
1¼ cup crème anglaise (or vanilla pudding)
Pink food coloring
1 pack of mini marshmallows
Blue fondant (enough for the goggles as shown)
You will need:
A “water tank”-shaped receptacle
Gingerbread man—or even better, woman—cutter. (You may find this treat gets mistaken for being a boy though.)
Toothpicks
A piping bag and small nozzle (It helps to have a crackly radio on the side.)
Find an empty school and fill a small pool with room temperature water. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
TO MAKE THE POOL PARFAIT
Prepare the gelatin as directed on the packet and add some blue food coloring. Put it in the fridge to speed up cooling, but don’t let it set.
Warm some of the chocolate gently over a pan of warm water and use the melted chocolate to stick the Ladyfingers to the bottom of the water tank-shaped receptacle.
Pour the gelatin on top of the Ladyfingers and place the bowl in the fridge to set fully.
TO MAKE THE CAKE
Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan. Place the ingredients for the cake into a large bowl and mix together with a handheld electric mixer. Pour the mixture into the pan, place in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the cookie cutter to cut out an El shape.
Apply the pink food coloring to the crème anglaise or pudding to turn it the desired shade of pink for the dress. Pour it on top of the cake figure and use a knife to spread it out evenly. Use a toothpick to apply the marshmallows as shown. Use a sharp knife to cut the goggles from the fondant, then apply to the cake. Finally, fill a piping bag with a little chocolate and pipe on the mouth.
Now it’s time to go and see Will, so dive in!
