Plastic pots
Multipurpose spray paint (available from most hardware, home-improvement, and craft-supply stores in all kinds of colors)
Stencils
Sponge (optional)
Waterproof paint (optional)
1.Spray the pot with multipurpose spray paint. For a tasteful look, choose subtle colors such as white on a pale blue background or gray on white. If you are making personalized pots, particularly for children, allow them to choose their own colors to make the pots even more personal.
2.Decide on the word or phrase you want to feature; it could be the name of the plant(s) you are growing (for example, a collection of herbs) or the name of the person who will be using the pot. It could be your house number if you intend to put the pot by the front door.
3.Stencil the chosen word to the front of the pot using spray paint in a contrasting color or a sponge dipped in waterproof paint.
4.Wait two to four hours for the containers to dry. (Always check the paint cans for specific drying times.)
5.Plant the pots with the plants of your choice. Because the pots are decorative, keeping the planting simple creates an effective design. Your color schemes will also dictate what you plant; green goes with any bright color, so a foliage-heavy design will enhance the pot, while contrasting colors create a striking look. A purple pot is springs to life with yellow flowers, orange goes with blue, and so on.
