PETER HAPPÉ read English at Cambridge, and afterwards took a Ph.D. at London University with a thesis on Tudor drama. He has lectured on the early drama at a number of English and overseas universities. His publications include the collections Tudor Interludes and Four Morality Plays for Penguin. Besides writing articles and reviews on medieval and Renaissance drama, he has edited the plays of John Bale and Ben Jonson’s The Devil is an Ass, as well as co-editing the plays of John Heywood. His monograph on John Bale is forthcoming, and he is engaged on an edition of Jonson’s The Magnetick Lady. He retired from his post as Principal of Barton Peveril College in 1989 and he is at present a Research Fellow at the Hartley Institute, Southampton University.
