JOY AND POSITIVITY
TECHNIQUES: AFFIRMATIONS, AROMATHERAPY, MEDITATION
Cultivating joy and other positive feelings is essential to energy healing. The more positive emotions, like joy, you can create in your life, the more easily you can step into the space where healing is possible.
Inner Smile Mudra (Hansi Mudra)
The inner smile, or laughter, mudra, hansi, evokes joy and positivity.
Place the tip of your thumb against the tip of your middle finger to create a circle, and then hold your ring and forefingers in the circle as well, next to your middle finger, as the image shows. Extend your pinkie out straight with your palm facing upward.
Sit and hold the hansi mudra, with both hands resting in your lap, palms facing up. For 5 to 10 minutes, repeat the affirmation, “I am filled with joy and laughter.”
Joyful Massage Blend
Lemon and orange essential oils are uplifting, making for an excellent massage blend when you want to feel more joy. This blend makes 30 mL (1 ounce).
1 ounce carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
5 drops orange essential oil
Add all of the ingredients to a dark-glass dropper bottle and shake it to mix well. Massage ¼ teaspoon into your solar plexus chakra.
Laughter Meditation
I engage in a movement practice called Nia. In Nia, we have a practice that involves sitting and fake laughing for 30 to 60 seconds. Whenever I do it, I notice that the fake laughter quickly becomes real, and I feel real joy. This exercise may feel uncomfortable at first, but eventually the laughter will turn to real joy.
In a place where you won’t be disturbed, sit comfortably on the floor. Take a breath and begin to laugh, faking it at first. Continue to laugh for 30 to 60 seconds. Notice whether you begin to laugh for real.
