Crows Nest National Park, on the edge of the Great Dividing Range west of Brisbane, features the picturesque Crows Nest Falls with its 20-metre drop into a granite rock pool. Downstream is the Valley of Diamonds, a deep gorge surrounded by cliffs up to 120 metres high through which the Crows Nest Creek flows. These natural attractions are set in a landscape of dry eucalypt forest, in which stringybarks, bloodwoods and ironbarks flourish. On the edges of the waterways are weeping bottlebrush, river she-oak and forest red gum. In spring and early summer, wildflowers add brilliant colour to the scenery. Various birds feed on the nectar and blossoms of the shrubs and trees, including the pale-headed rosella, rose robin, eastern yellow robin, golden whistler, grey shrike-thrush and several species of honeyeaters. The park's rocky cliffs and outcrops provide a delightful habitat for brush-tailed rock-wallabies and lizards, while platypus live in the creek. At night, a quiet search with torch in hand might reveal brushtail possums, koalas, and sugar, feathertail and greater gliders.

The Crows Nest Falls section of the park has walking tracks leading to the falls and the Valley of Diamonds lookout: Kauyoo Loop Track (2.7 km return, 1 hour, medium difficulty); Crows Nest Falls Lookout (2.1 km return, 45 minutes, medium difficulty); and Koonin Track (4.5 km return, 1.5 hours, medium difficulty). The small campground offers tent and caravan sites (no power), bush showers and toilets. Campers must bring their own drinking water and, although fireplaces are provided, it is best to bring a gas or fuel stove. Advance bookings are recommended for school holidays and long weekends.
