DAVID BRIGGS

My relationship with David Briggs is one that would propel my career beyond my wildest dreams. When I came to Nashville in 1967, there was one main rhythm section that played on about 90 percent of all records recorded here. They were called the “A-Team.” David was one of those guys. He was the most sought-after keyboard session player in Nashville for many years, and his long list of credits would not fit in this book.

David and I ended up playing together in Elvis’s TCB Band in 1975. He played electric keyboard and I played acoustic piano. After Elvis’s death, David recommended me to replace Glen D. Hardin in Emmylou Harris’s The Hot Band, and for all of the band opportunities that followed, including backing Rodney Crowell, Rosanne Cash, and The Cherry Bombs. David also single-handedly got me my first A&R gig with Jerry Bradley at RCA Nashville, which then led to my job at MCA, and the rest is history!

This friendship may be one of the most important of my life. David is an awesome musician and arranger, but he’s the best friend a guy in my position could have ever had!

Thank you, David Briggs!

“Tony Brown is one of the best musicians, producers, and all-around talented guys in the music business. I would trust him on any project.”
