In 1984 Bruce Hinton was appointed President of MCA Nashville under Jimmy Bowen as CEO. We were both part of Jimmy’s “new regime.” When Jimmy left to go to Capitol, Bruce became CEO of MCA and I would rise to the level of president and head of A&R.
Bruce, Scott Borchetta, Walt Wilson, and I were a force to be reckoned with. Together we made MCA the number one country label for ten straight years, earning us the honor of Label of the Decade. Credit not only goes to Bruce and me but to the entire MCA team from the mail room up.
Bruce is a brilliant businessman. Our similar tastes in music made us a great team.
“Being able to work with so many artists whose talent has achieved true greatness is its own very special high and reward.”
Bruce Hinton
AROUND THE OFFICE, BRUCE WAS REFERRED TO AS “THE GOVERNOR” FOR HIS STATESMAN-LIKE COMPOSURE.
