Elton John’s album, Tumbleweed Connection, introduced me to the pop music that I would most relate to. Everyone has music that influenced them as a musician and made them a music lover. Elton and Bernie Taupin’s songs did that for me!
I became friends with Bernie when I was at MCA, during the trips he made to Nashville to become better acquainted with the writers, producers, and musicians here. When I met him, we immediately became good friends. Only because of my friendship with him did I get to meet Elton John backstage in Nashville in 2015. He said he would introduce me to Elton only if I agreed to take him to see Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers the next night. A deal was made!
Bernie sent me the note featured on the next page, after I met him for the first time. It meant a lot to me, which is why I have kept it for all these years.
Happy trails to the Brown Dirt Cowboy!
“When I first came to Nashville, Tony Brown was the king. Since then I’ve come to realize he’s also a prince and a legend.”
