TIM DUBOIS

Tim Dubois was first an accountant who became a successful songwriter and eventually opened Arista Nashville under Clive Davis. He’s responsible for the careers of Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, and a host of other artists.

Our careers first intersected when he co-wrote “When I Call Your Name” for Vince Gill. That song exploded Vince’s career as an artist and mine as a producer. Years later, Tim and I ended up working together as co-owners of the joint venture with Universal Music Group, Universal South Records.

Twenty years before that, we were Music Row’s main competitors as heads of the two most successful labels for many years: MCA and Arista Nashville. We both had similar musical tastes and had enough success at those labels to think we should join forces. I’m glad we did, and to this day we call each other “partner.”

“It was a dream come true to become partners with the man who produced some of my favorite music in the whole world.”
