Mel C
- Melanie Jayne Chisholm - more commonly known as Mel C was born on the 12th of January, 1974.
- She was born in Whiston, Lancashire and raised in Rainhill Merseyside where she went to Fairfield High School.
- Melanie attended the Bird College of Dance, Music and Theatre Performance where she studied a diploma course.
- Melanie saw an advert in The Stage magazine looking to form a girl group. She was enrolled at college at the time but left just short of finishing her three-year course.
- Despite this, she did eventually gain a teaching qualification in tap and modern theatre dance!
- Each girl had a particular style and Mel C became known for her tracksuits and tomboy attitude earning her the nickname Sporty Spice.
- Melanie has since confessed that the girls came close to parting ways several times, even before Geri’s very public exit - and that she was almost kicked out herself!
- In 1998 Mel C joined forces with Bryan Adams to release When You’re Gone. The song peaked at number three in the UK and spent nine weeks in the top 10 chart.
- In 1999, Mel released her debut solo album Northern Star, although the girls were still yet to officially announce their split.
- She reached the UK number one spot with the third single from her debut album. It was called Never be the Same Again.
- Melanie has been open with the fact that she suffered with depression and an eating disorder in the past.
- In 2009, Melanie and then-boyfriend Thomas Starr announced the birth of their daughter Scarlet.
- Melanie played Mary Magdalene in the Jesus Christ Superstar 21-date theatrical performance at London’s O2 Arena in late September 2012.
- Melanie appeared as a Judge on ITV’s Superstar and was reportedly offered a last minute five-figure deal to stay on-board.
- Mel is a huge Liverpool FC fan, and you would often see her wearing the team’s iconic red whenever she could get away with it.
