The Five Questions

No matter how complex the subject, one should be able capture its essence on a single page. So this is what ethical intelligence comes down to.

When considering a course of action, ask yourself:

1. Will this avoid causing harm?

2. Will it make things better?

3. Is it respectful?

4. Is it fair?

5. Is it a loving thing to do?

If you can answer yes to each of these questions, it’s an ethically intelligent thing to do.

If you can’t, what other course of action will allow you to do so?

The five principles of ethical intelligence are a framework, not a formula, for living honorably. Managing your business and the rest of your life is a constant struggle, but if you make the five principles the foundation of your life, you’ll be able to solve the toughest problems everywhere you go.
