Chapter Fourteen

The night before the wedding had arrived. As Mia and Adrian arrived at the swanky spa and casino resort where Daniel arranged for his future bride to spend her final night as a single lady, Adrian’s face still had the same grim look on it.

“What’s wrong with you?” Mia asked, nudging Adrian in the side.

“Nothing, I’m good.”

“You don’t look good. We’ve worked things out so why does it seem like you are still mad at me?”

“I’m fine Mia,” Adrian said.

Mia swiped the key card and opened the door to a beautifully decorated suite filled with fresh flowers, framed artwork and handwoven blankets across the bed. She gasped, then turned to Adrian, “Are you jealous?”

“I am far from jealous. I just don’t have a good feeling about this one,” he said as he pulled off the wig he’d been wearing. “I personally think we are going too far this time,” while wiping the lipstick from his lips. As he continued to remove the public disguise he wore out with Mia, she walked over to him and kissed him on the lips.

“After all this time, you pick now to develop a conscious? Do you realize how much I stand to gain, how much we stand to gain?”

Adrian nodded his head in agreement.

“Daniel is so in love and wrapped around my finger that he decided not to go through with the pre-nup after his attorney dropped him as a client. This man owns four gyms and has been taking meetings to develop his very own protein shake. And did I mention no pre-nup?” she said while doing the shimmy with her shoulders. Mia didn’t realize that Kimberly had been the entire family’s attorney. Mrs. Fitzgerald wouldn’t dare let her son get married without protecting his assets. She had the agreement, and plans to get Mia to sign it prior to the wedding.

Mia continued trying to soften Adrian’s mood, “Babe, don’t worry, I have been doing this for a long time and you’ve been right there with me, so you should know that it always works out, right?”

“I guess,” he whispered.

“Adrian,” she said while lifting his head so that their eyes met. “Come on let’s go explore and see what we can get into. We can check out the casino and maybe it will take your mind off things.”

“Cool, let me slip my gear back on. I don’t see how you women do it,” as he shook his head in disbelief.

“No worries, be yourself tonight.”

“Mia,” he said while shaking his head in disagreement.

She walked over and placed her finger over his lips to silence him. “We are almost two hours away from home; no one here will recognize us. Besides, Daniel is doing his bachelor stuff tonight; my future monster-in-law is tying up loose ends. Everyone is preoccupied.”

“But Mia.”

She quickly silenced him again, this time with a kiss. “Let’s just enjoy the moment together as a couple because after tonight it will be limited for a while.”

Adrian agreed and they exited the room as man and woman, holding hands, sharing kisses along the way.
