Establish a mutually beneficial arrangement consisting of a well-articulated future business relationship, with increase of the market reach for the products and services of the platform partners at acceptable IP and financial terms, while enhancing the market position and strength of the platform

Clearly defined collaboration scope

Establish clear and transparent criteria for the inclusion and offering of products and services of the platform partners into the platform program, while focusing on acceptable commercial and IP terms

Freedom to operate

Avoid any transfer of IP ownership of products of the platform partners to the platform owner to ensure maximum freedom to operate, as well as restrictions on the ability of the partners to operate freely outside of the program

Risk sharing

Ensure (continued) availability of successful products and services to be offered on the platform, with IP and financial terms which are reasonable and bearable for the platform partners

Worst Case planning

Prepare adequately for the provision of technology, maintenance and support services by the platform partners to platform customers, as these will be key for the reputation of the platform and its owner

Senior Executive Support

Ensure effective management at the operational level with little senior executive intervention, with the exception of potential IP and performance issues which do require adequate senior support

Carefully examine the applicable terms of the platform program, while preparing for the platform owner’s technology and business diligence on the platform partners and their offering

Satisfy yourself on the clarity and transparency of the platform rules governing the relationship between the platform owner and the platform partners, with any co-creation arrangements to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis

Partnering metrics

Participate only to platform programs with clear and transparent criteria for the inclusion and offering of products and services of the platform partners

Rewards/ penalties

Ensure that service levels and associated rewards and penalties are realistic, taking into account the size and sophistication of the platform partners and their ability to deliver services to the platform customers

Ensure continuous and transparent communication between the platform owner and the platform partners, for purposes of measuring success of the offering of products/services on such platform

Satisfy yourself on the clarity and transparency of the platform rules governing the relationship between the platform owner and the platform partners, as well as the integration and delivery terms for the products and services of the platform partners

Dedicate little time to elaborate change management procedures unless significant development is needed to ensure acceptance of products and services on the platform

Dedicate little time to elaborate issue escalation mechanisms unless significant development and other delivery obligations are imposed on the platform partner
