CHAPTER 24
Jesus, the Teacher

Matthew 22:34–40; Mark 12:28–31; Luke 10:25–37

Jesus told the people, “Love God, and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.”

A man asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus answered his question with this story.

“One day, a man was walking down the road. Suddenly, some robbers jumped out. They hit the man, stole everything he had, and ran away, leaving him lying in the dirt. Soon, a priest came along, but he passed by without helping. Then a leader in the church came along. He didn’t stop to help either.

“Finally, a Samaritan came down the road. When he saw the injured man, he felt sorry for him and quickly jumped off his donkey and ran over to help. The Samaritan bandaged the man’s sores, put him on his donkey, and took him to an inn where he could get better.”

Then Jesus asked, “Who was a neighbor to the injured man?”

The man replied, “The Samaritan who helped him.”

Jesus said, “Yes. Be kind, like that man.”
