I PROMISED I WOULDN’T DO IT. AFTER THOSE FIRST three Skyler Foxe books, I promised you, dear Reader, that I wouldn’t end the books in a cliffhanger ever again. And I apologize for breaking that promise, but…it was a really good place to end the book! What can I say? I mean, what do you seriously think is going to happen? Are they gonna break up? Really? Would I do that to you?
All that aside, I wish I had known about Redlands when I first moved to the Inland Empire. We might have moved there instead. It’s a cute little town with lots of old Victorian and Craftsman homes, charming shopping streets, and a thriving artistic community. The Lincoln Shrine and the Redlands Bowl are real. Only those involved in it in this book are fictional, and there is no relation in this book to any person that has ever had anything to do with the Shrine or the Redlands Bowl living or dead. I made ALL those people up.
So now that that’s out of the way…
Really, the only reason I even know about the city of Redlands is because of the fabulous Redlands Bowl. We’ve been going every summer for over twenty years, enjoying concerts, dance, and theater there. And now that I put Skyler in Redlands, I have the feeling he and Keith are somewhere on the lawn having their picnic just like we do. It’s weird, actually. And it’s well worth going to (but go early to set up your place). The Redlands Bowl survives alone on donations so if you would like to donate to the Redlands Bowl go to this link http://redlandsbowl.org/how-to-donate/ If you ever find yourself in the Inland Empire in the summer, you should really check it out. We might run into each other there!
Now I realize that docents in a tiny museum like that are volunteers and don’t get paid, but for the purposes of this book, just flow with me here, okay? Still, the Lincoln Shrine is an amazing assemblage of Civil War memorabilia and has an awesome collection of books on the subject and from the era. Go check that out, too. It’s free!
As always, do go to my website to see new things. I’ve also started a quarterly newsletter and there’s always a contest with giveaways. You can sign up for it there. Find me also on Facebook /skylerfoxe.mysteries, and chat. I’m always around. And thanks so much for reading! The next Skyler Foxe Mystery is STONE COLD FOXE, with romance and murder on the high seas with Skyler and the gang! Be on the lookout for that. Cheers!
