Part 2: Robben Meets Robben

image

I sat on the lush green grass for quite some time, contemplating what had just happened to me and what was going on in the world around me. There seemed to be an endless amount of things that I did not know, so before I tackled those questions I tried to take stock of what I did know. I knew that my name was Robben and that I was living on a Roblox server. What server I was on, and how I came to be there were still things I did not know. In my mind, it felt as if someone had come in with an eraser and wiped large portions of my memory completely clean! All that seemed intact were my basic cognitive functions and long-term memories.

Still, without fully understanding my situation, there were certain assumptions that could be safely made. Whoever had been conducting work on me in the building that I now sat underneath clearly had intended me to do some service. Particularly, some sort of warfare. Why else would they have given me a large battle ax? This made me wonder: just who or what was I supposed to be fighting? For the first time, I looked around me to get a feel for my surroundings.

Unfortunately for me, I could see very little from my current location. The building that I had been unceremoniously ejected from moments earlier obscured most of the view around me. Its harsh metal walls extended forward on my right and left, as well as over my head. The only real view I had was directly in front of me, but the ground before me dropped swiftly away, resulting in a view that only extend for half a dozen yards.

I probably would have sat and pondered my strange fate for a long time had not a metallic sound from above me broke my train of thought. I looked up just in time to see the floor opening again, as it had for me minutes before! The only difference now that someone else was being dropped through! The man came plunging downward, his body aimed directly at my head!

WHAM!

I rolled to the right in the nick of time, dodging the falling body as it struck the ground. I now found myself looking eye to eye at an exact copy of me!

“Hello there,” the newcomer said to me. “Are you ready for battle?”

This man was dressed in the same outfit as I was, and was carrying a large battle ax exactly like mine.

“Uh.... who are you?” I asked.

“My name is Robben. I'm headed off to war!”

“War? Who are you fighting?”

Robben looked at me blankly, as if this thought had never occurred to him, then answered.

“Why, with the enemy? Who else?”

A part of me wanted to launch into a debate as to the logic behind his reasoning, but the reality of the matter was that he seemed to have a better understanding of our purpose than I did, so perhaps I was not in a place to question him.

“Alright then, Robben,” I said. “I suppose I'll join you. Where is the enemy?”

“Excellent! The enemy is ahead!” he cried, and climbing to his feet, he began to rush forward without another thought.

I watched my twin dash down the slope. He didn't seem to think too much about what he was doing, but he did have a lot of courage at least! I climbed to my feet and hurried to catch up with him.
